Server Update 8/6/2013 - Bad Words and Web Charts

Recommended Posts

This morning I deployed a new server update. This update includes a few new features.

Base credits fill again. We implemented a stop gap to get bases filling again and will need to do another updates soon to better optimize the background processes to fill bases.

There is now a bad word filter in place for player to player messages. We implemented the filter using a SAS product owned by a friend of QONQR. The filter is a bit aggressive at the moment removing words such as "****" and "****". We will be working to fine tune the filter a time goes on. I know that many of you will immediately start sending messages laced with profanity to your friends to see what is caught. You should know we log every foul message and the filter scores your level of profanity. We will use the scores to identify potentially abusive players in the game. I forget how many languages it works in, but the language filter crosses several languages. By the way, if you are in need of such a product for your own software application I can put in touch with them. It is amazingly simple to implement. Right now it is in private beta and not publicized.

The first set of leader boards is now on the web portal. http://portal.QONQR.com You can now get a percentage controlled chart for the world, country, or region yourself from the portal. This is our most popular request on facebook, so we implemented this first on the portal. Watch for more charts and reports to come in the future. You must login to the portal, then click leader boards in the "Q" menu on the upper left.

How are the values for the pie chart on the left determined?

http://portal.qonqr.com/Zone/RegionDetails/3564

This shows a pretty close split of Faceless/Swarm on the chart, but the leaderboard shows almost nothing for Swarm as far as bot counts go. If you look at the map in game, the south half of the state is held by Legion, the north by Faceless. I don't think there are any Swarm controlled zones at the moment, except for one on the CT/RI border.

I can't seem to get to the Leaderboard in IE9 (I know, I know but I'm at work), I log into the Portal, click the Q at the top left and choose Leaderboards, it then takes me back to the log in page and asks me to log in again. Maybe it's a work cookie thing

What does the 'stop gap' mean.

A stop gap is a term used to describe a temporary fix to a problem. Something to fix the problem till a more permanent and stable solution can be created and implemented. Usually a stop gap doesn't fix all the problems, but it fixes the majority of issues.

Love the new web charts, great beginings for greater things to come!

wow cool! that's great!

i think it's the same bug as above but here very clear: theres no legion in this region but they control 57% of it... i think it's just displaying the wrong color/fraction but actually it's calculated right... so legion instead of swarm...

EDIT:

also here it sems to swich swarm and legion:

If there is an issue with the pie chats that would make me feel a whole lot better because frankly I was astonished at the disparity in my state (Tennessee http://portal.qonqr.com/Zone/RegionDetails/3548) and neighboring Georgia (http://portal.qonqr.com/Zone/RegionDetails/3539). All Legion in these circles were PRETTY SURE we dominated those states and I am incredulous, to say the least, that GA legion only control 4% of zones.

The devs had to remove that because it was lagging the whole system down. Silver started a thread about it a few weeks ago. Can't put the link here because im using my sco--phone right now.

There also semes to be an issue with the calculation...

The piechart sayes that faceless controlles 26.5% of switzerland and there are 6667 (awesome number :D ) zones in switzerland

so 1% equals 66.67 Zones.

But the top Faceless players (till place 26) have together 1962 zoneleads in switzerland (same timepoint than the Web-Leaderboard, I compared botnumber with the stats on my scope), this would equal 29.4% and there are even more faceless players that are not accounted for... and about 200 leads without owning the zone seems a bit much...

So there are 2 possibilities: the "Total Zones" is actually "Total Zones Controlled" or it's an error in the code...

I wish you lots of strenght for debugging the code! Finding bugs can get soooo annoying! ;)
