Blue crashes on re-launch

Recommended Posts

Platform: OnePlus One, Android v 5.1.1, (specifically Cyanogen commercial (no root) 12.1.1.YOG7DAS2K1).

Step 1: Launch qonqr blue, wait until load. Perhaps launch some bots

Step 2: use home key to return to Android home. (Not the 'back' key which exits cleanly).

Step 3: Tap qonqr app icon.

Step 4: Watch crash report. It appears qonqr is trying to reload itself after already being loaded?

Note: step 3 does not trigger the splash screen with the three faction leaders.

App resume is a tricky one. We have crash reporting that is helping to pinpoint these. Android was never made to handle suspend/resume. Developers have always had to hack their way around it.

We want GPS to turn off when you suspend the app, and a few other things we want to stop and restart to save battery life. Something in that code must be breaking. I think we can find it from the crash reports.

Let me know if you want logs. Also, have you tested battery savings by turning off GPS? (Is it worth the effort)?

Finally, can you change modes (move from gps to triangulation while in background?) This is probably a stupid idea but if you can leave blue running all the time but minimize the battery loss it might be a lot less code.

By default we request coarse location, which should only use cell triangulation. But... we can't guarantee that your phone won't turn on the antenna anyway, because it is Android and every phone could do something different. In the release this morning, we have added an option to use high accuracy GPS in settings for those that might be traveling in rural parts of the world where there are not 3 cell towers to triangulate a location. High accuracy GPS should always turn on the GPS antenna, but again, we can't guarantee that either.
